Soma Studios undertook a comprehensive project for The Sundance Channel, focusing on modernizing their film database infrastructure. We migrated their extensive film database to a more advanced and efficient technology, ensuring better performance and scalability. In addition, we developed a robust, public-facing search engine for SundanceChannel.com, tailored to the channel’s specific needs. This search engine enabled seamless access and retrieval of film data, significantly enhancing the user experience for visitors exploring the channel’s film library online.
Soma Studios played a key role in enhancing the digital presence of Nickelodeon by developing robust search engines for both Nick.com and NickJr.com, improving content accessibility for users. Our team also handled Flash development for interactive videos and games, providing engaging experiences for young audiences. In addition, we contributed PHP, JavaScript, and HTML development to build out and optimize various features across the sites, ensuring a seamless and dynamic user experience.
Soma Studios was instrumental in enhancing the visual storytelling of Concierge.com (now Condé Nast Traveller) by developing the Photo Uber Slide show. This feature was designed to display high-quality travel photography taken by professional photographers, allowing users to immerse themselves in captivating visuals. Developed in JavaScript, the slideshow provided a seamless and dynamic viewing experience, contributing to the site’s rich, visual content.
For the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Soma Studios partnered with BMW USA to create a dedicated Olympics Minisite. This project involved the use of CSS, JavaScript, and HTML to build an engaging, visually appealing platform that showcased BMW’s involvement in the Olympics. The site was designed to provide users with a seamless experience, aligning with BMW’s brand identity and enhancing their presence during the global event.
Soma Studios collaborated with Gucci to enhance their online presence through the development and continuous improvement of Gucci.com. The project involved building and upgrading the website with sleek animations using JavaScript, and ensuring a cohesive and responsive design across desktop, mobile, and tablet platforms. This extensive work was carried out using Ruby on Rails, MySQL, JQuery, JavaScript, CSS, HTML5, and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). Additionally, Soma Studios developed a custom content management system (CMS) tailored to Gucci’s specific needs, further streamlining their digital operations.
Soma Studios contributed to the evolution of High 5 Games’ digital offerings by refactoring their legacy PHP5 code to PHP7, utilizing the Laravel framework for enhanced performance and scalability. Our team focused on making the code reusable, creating templates that could be easily adapted for future games. We also decoupled PHP and JavaScript code to improve maintainability and refactored MySQL queries using Laravel’s Eloquent ORM. In addition to PHP development, we worked on the Facebook SDK and modernized JavaScript code using ES6, Gulp, Node.js, and JQuery. This comprehensive approach ensured that High 5 Games’ slot machine games were robust, scalable, and ready for future expansion.
At West Elm, Soma Studios played a pivotal role in developing eCommerce and product pages for both mobile and desktop. The team consolidated significant portions of the codebase, worked on a multi-buy bundle strategy, created a tool for resizing and altering swatch images, and improved the store locator page. They also implemented an SEO strategy for all Williams-Sonoma cross-brand sites and refactored outdated DOJO code to Vanilla JS ES6. Additionally, Soma Studios enhanced the backend functionality in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and improved the UI using Java 8 and JUnit testing.
At Madison Square Garden, Soma Studios significantly improved MSG.com by setting up PHPUnit tests with Docker and refactoring the backend to Doctrine ORM. The team also focused on enhancing the site’s search capabilities using AWS ElasticSearch and worked on the MSG venue app, implementing a food recommendation system powered by Machine Learning with turicreate, AWS Jupyter notebook, and Python. Front-end work included development using React/Redux/JavaScript ES6 with JEST Unit testing. The project utilized a tech stack that included WordPress, PHP7, MySQL, AWS, React, Redux, and JavaScript ES6.

The project involved the use of JavaScript for dynamic content, HTML for structure, and CSS/SASS for styling, ensuring a visually appealing and responsive design tailored to the brand’s needs.

The work involved integrating PHP and JavaScript to enhance the site’s functionality, ensuring that it met the high standards required for a leading digital publication. The result was a seamless, efficient, and user-friendly backend that supports Wired’s extensive content and innovative features.
At Williams Sonoma, Soma Studios focused on the backend development of product pages, enhancing their functionality and performance. The work involved using Java within the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) for content management, as well as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a seamless and efficient user experience. This effort helped to streamline the product management process and improve the overall usability of the Williams Sonoma website.
